Check the amplifier connection with a known-good test speaker, verify the wiring pairs and polarity, and — if a subwoofer is used — confirm the subwoofer input-panel wiring is correct.
The number depends on the speaker coverage angle, ceiling height and desired degree of overlap.
Key criteria include room size, desired coverage density, ceiling height, and the type of audio program material. Speaker quantity and layout depend on these factors.
Yes, the full-range models are weather-resistant. They pass MilSpec 810 and are IEC IP-X4 “splash proof.” EV recommends installing them under an overhang where possible. Weatherized terminal covers can add protection for EVID 4.2 and 6.2.
EVID models are available in white or black, including the 12.1 subwoofer. They are pre-coated to reduce fading, improve appearance and provide an easy-to-paint surface.
When two speakers are connected out of polarity (out of phase), the low frequencies cancel each other acoustically. Improperly wired subwoofer panels that reverse the amplifier connections cause the same effect.
Check all connections at the amplifier and speakers to ensure they are clean and tight.
This is usually caused by a defective amplifier, or by poor system grounding / a ground loop.
A system with one 12.1 subwoofer and four 4.2 or 6.2 satellites can typically cover up to a 4,000 sq ft room with balanced, even coverage.
The EVID Series includes multiple models that allow flexible subwoofer/satellite configurations for a wide range of applications and room sizes.
EVID 3.2 and 4.2 full-range models have accessory stands for vertical or horizontal shelf mounting. EVID 6.2 can also be vertically mounted with the appropriate stand.
The “AB” series array brackets allow EVID 3.2, 4.2 and 6.2 units to be mounted in array configurations, including 180° or 360° coverage. Arrays can be suspended from threaded rod or support pipe.
Use ceiling clips to mount the SAM bracket to the suspended ceiling T-channel. EV recommends two clips per speaker, positioned near or under grid support wires. EV does not stock these adapters.
The 12.1 offers several mounting options. For flush mounting in a 2x2 ceiling grid, cut two small ceiling panels to fill the spaces beside the unit and attach the wall “L” channels. The unit is supported from above by two eye bolts.
Yes. EVID 3.2, 4.2 and 6.2 are made of high-impact ABS and accept a wide variety of paints. EV recommends following the painting instructions in the owner’s manual.
Yes. It can be painted over the existing surface. EV recommends removing the acoustic foam before painting.
Yes. Spare logos, brackets and related items can be ordered as service parts.
The logo can be blacked out or whited out so it becomes nearly invisible.
Not in most cases. The EVID 12.1 is made of reinforced MDF with a polyurethane coating, but it should generally not be exposed to rain or direct moisture.
They are tested for humidity, low-temperature cycling, high-temperature cycling, UV exposure, salt spray and IEC water splashing. The products passed IP-X4 splashproof testing.
Yes. Protection circuitry is included in all 8-ohm models. The “t” versions are current-limited and protected by the transformer.
Placing the subwoofer in the middle of the room can improve uniform coverage but may reduce maximum SPL. Wall or corner placement may be needed for higher SPL. Additional subwoofers can help create more even coverage.
Yes. The 12.1 has an internal passive crossover, but it can also be used with an active crossover and a separate amplifier channel. Recommended crossover range is 60–160 Hz with a 12–24 dB slope.
The 12.1 crossover separates low-pass and high-pass bands. EV recommends using a 4-ohm load on each satellite output when possible. Higher satellite impedance can lower crossover frequency and create overlap between subwoofer and satellites.
For mono operation, parallel the two subwoofer inputs, creating a 4-ohm load below 160 Hz. Both inputs must be connected with correct polarity. The amplifier must be able to handle loads below 4 ohms in this setup.
Balance depends on application and music content. Subwoofer level can be adjusted acoustically by changing placement: closer to corners, ceiling or floor increases bass; moving it toward a wall center or room center reduces bass.
EVID transformers are designed for stability across their frequency range, low low-frequency saturation, full rated output down to the specified low-frequency limit, and low insertion loss of less than 0.5 dB.
Use “t” versions for large wide-area applications, installations needing many satellites across odd-shaped or multiple rooms, or systems based on constant-voltage infrastructure.
Yes. The same “t” models work on both 100v and 70.7v distributed line systems.
3.2t: 5 W at 70v and 10 W at 100v. 4.2t: 30 W, 15 W and 7.5 W at 70.7v/100v, plus 3.7 W at 70.7v only. 6.2t: 60 W, 30 W and 15 W at 70.7v/100v, plus 7.5 W at 70.7v only.
Yes, but it requires a high-quality matching transformer, such as the Electro-Voice 15000 series. EV states it is generally better to run the subwoofer from its own low-impedance amplifier channel and keep satellites on the 70v/100v line.
EQ depends on speaker quantity, room characteristics, operating level, background noise and audience type. EVID systems allow a wide range of EQ settings due to their frequency response and power handling.
