The venue
A school where music comes first
Founded in 1834, the Gabrieli-Gymnasium in Eichstätt is a school built around music. More than 1,000 students attend, and the program includes a big band, an orchestra, and several choirs, among other activities. To further improve the practicing facilities, the school recently invested in new sound systems from Electro-Voice and Dynacord.
The Berg-based installation company Gellfart Audio equipped the 4 music classrooms, each with an individually configured multimedia system including loudspeakers and amplifiers. The brief was demanding: reproduce existing audio media accurately and work as a live PA, without compromising sound quality in either role.

The challenge
Accurate playback and a live PA from one system
Each classroom needed a system that could play back existing audio media accurately and also perform as a live PA, with no compromise in sound quality between the two applications. That requirement called for great flexibility from the installed sound system.
The rooms added practical constraints of their own. Live sound levels run high, the dynamic range is wide, and there was very little space available for installation next to the blackboard.
The solution
Dynacord C Series amplifiers, Electro-Voice EVC and EVU loudspeakers
After various tests, the final decision went to Dynacord C Series power amplifiers driving Electro-Voice loudspeakers from the EVC and EVU series. The setup convinced everyone involved: pristine music reproduction, almost in HiFi quality, and a distortion-free performance even at high live sound levels and across a wide dynamic range.
The hardware also solved the space problem. Integrated flying points and U-brackets made the compact speakers quick to install in the tight zone next to the blackboard, and each of the 4 classrooms received its own individually configured multimedia system.

The result
A classroom that behaves like a rehearsal room
Both the education team and the students are impressed by the sound quality, the user-friendliness, and the numerous application options. In all 4 classrooms, one setup now covers accurate playback of recorded media and live performance.
For a school whose life runs through its big band, orchestra, and choirs, the systems reproduce the situation in a rehearsal room. That is exactly what the project set out to do.
