A decade of Texas heat — replaced with stadium sound that reaches every seat
New Caney Independent School District had run its stadium on Electro-Voice loudspeakers for more than a decade, through every kind of Texas weather. When the time came to replace the rig and fit a larger digital scoreboard, the brief was clear: cover both sets of bleachers and the field, tame the echo off the stands, and turn game night into a multipurpose entertainment space.

An outdoor stadium that runs on game night
New Caney Independent School District in Montgomery County, Texas, hosts football and community events at its stadium, where the press box and scoreboard sit more than 300 meters apart across the field.
The previous Electro-Voice install had served the district for over ten years, weathering Texas heat the whole time. It still worked, but vertically arrayed speakers flanking the scoreboard covered the home and away bleachers and left the field without sound.
Cover the bleachers and the field, and make room for a bigger scoreboard
The district wanted a larger digital scoreboard, which meant the loudspeakers could no longer take up the space on either side of it. Coverage had to reach both stands and the field at once, from a single position on top of the new scoreboard.
The old layout also created acoustic problems. Sound slapped back from the home stand into the community room, and the rig had no live microphone capability for events beyond the game.
Three MTS point-source speakers on the scoreboard, networked over the field
Southwest Building Systems mounted three Electro-Voice MTS-4153-64FWB point-source loudspeakers left-center-right across the top of the new scoreboard, with three X12-128-FGB subwoofers for low end. From one line, the array covers both sets of bleachers and the field, and frees the space the larger scoreboard needed.
Dynacord IPX20:4 amplifiers drive the system, with an MXE5 matrix mix engine and SONICUE Sound System Software handling routing and control over Dante audio across the existing 300-meter cable run between press box and scoreboard.

“The new design mounted three MTS loudspeakers left-center-right on top of the new scoreboard, which not only freed up the real estate needed for a larger digital scoreboard, but also provided coverage for both stands and the field.”
Both stands, the field, and the echo handled
With the loudspeakers positioned to put sound exactly where it was needed, the district resolved the acoustic problems that had defined the old stadium. The slap-back from the home stand into the community room is gone, and the field now hears the same clear sound as the bleachers.
After installation, an Electro-Voice technician tuned and EQ'd the system on site. The result is a louder, clearer rig with live microphone capability, turning the stadium into a multipurpose entertainment space behind a bigger, better scoreboard.
