At the developer's Manchester headquarters the same bar exists as a real, multipurpose space, matched to the game down to its viewport and its sound. The brief was a 7.1 surround system that covers a 42 m glass-roofed room with stadium-quality level, while every loudspeaker disappears into the set.

A real-world copy of a virtual bar
Located on the ninth floor of the Old Granada Studios building in Manchester's Enterprise City district, Cloud Imperium's UK headquarters is a creative hub for the independent game developer behind Star Citizen.
Voyager Bar is a multipurpose space within the headquarters that hosts conferences, company gatherings, large meetings, and events. The room runs around 42 m (137 ft) long and 15 m (49 ft) wide, with a high ceiling and a glass roof over roughly two-thirds of the building, which makes it an acoustically demanding space.

The space itself is around 42 m (137 ft.) long and 15 m (49 ft.) wide with a high-ceiling and a glass roof that covers around two-thirds of the building, making it an extremely challenging acoustic space.
Building on this, the aesthetics of the room were paramount. To ensure that everything matched the game, Cloud Imperium tasked Scan Pro Audio with creating a 7.1 surround system based on line-arrays that would evenly cover the entire space while providing powerful stadium-quality sound pressure levels.
Further supporting this, the fills and delays needed to be fully blend into the background. Equally, all the cabling had to be hidden from view, all the way to the AV room behind the 8 m (26 ft.) by 4 m (13 ft.) screen.
Line Array precision & processing power with dedicated amping and simple touch control
Scan Pro Audio designed and deployed a 7.1 surround system built on Electro-Voice loudspeakers driven by Dynacord electronics. Electro-Voice XLE181 line array elements and X12-128 subwoofers form the main left-right hangs, hidden entirely behind the viewport surround, while an EVF-1152D center channel anchors the vocal content at the heart of the LED screen.
White EVC-1082 side fills and delays mounted high on the RSJ beams complete the system, blending into the building rather than standing out from it, with every cable run hidden along the central beam back to the AV room.
The system is powered by Dynacord IPX series amplifiers, with IPX10:8, IPX10:4, and IPX20:4 models giving every loudspeaker its own dedicated amplifier channel across a 24-channel design. A Dynacord MXE5 Matrix Mix Engine serves as DSP and system controller, with SONICUE Sound System Software customizing a TPC-1 wall panel so the room can switch from a video wall and presentation microphone to a stage for DJs or live bands.

Voyager Bar now delivers exactly what it promises: stadium-quality sound pressure levels in a space where not a single loudspeaker is visible. The room looks precisely as it does in the game, and it sounds the part too, wrapping the space evenly from every angle, anchored by a center channel that holds its own at the heart of the action without ever breaking the illusion.
The MXE5 keeps connectivity to new elements straightforward, and added functionality can be as simple as enabling a feature in SONICUE rather than installing hardware.
The result is a 24-channel, 7.1 surround room that reproduces the audio environment of the game while staying invisible, and a control surface the end user runs without technical support.
