Science Museum Oklahoma, Oklahoma City
Sound that carries the full length of a concrete auditorium
Science Museum Oklahoma is a hands-on museum and one of the largest science museums in the nation. Its dated auditorium had become a limiting factor, holding back attendance for Science Live, the museum's daily flagship performance. Working with sponsor Oklahoma Gas & Electric, integrator Cory's Spaces rebuilt the theater into a modern, multifunctional venue, with Electro-Voice loudspeakers and subwoofers at the heart of the new sound system.

A daily science show in a room that had fallen behind
Science Museum Oklahoma welcomes visitors to hands-on science every day, and its auditorium carries the flagship program: Science Live, a daily performance for science-loving kids and adults. The renovation, sponsored by Oklahoma Gas & Electric, set out to revitalize the theater for Science Live and open it up for events and rentals beyond.
The aging auditorium had become a limiting factor. Attendance was slipping, and the dated room was diminishing the impact of one of the museum's signature programs.
Rebuild a concrete auditorium before Spring Break.
The construction timeline was fixed: the museum needed the room ready for its Spring Break launch. The auditorium's unique concrete wall design added a second obstacle, complicating the installation of sound panels and LED walls.
The brief went beyond patching the old system. The museum wanted a modern, multifunctional venue that could host daily performances, events, and rentals.
Fewer arrays, tighter clusters, sound that carries
Cory's Spaces began with a comprehensive sound system upgrade, rewiring the room and repositioning speakers and subs for even coverage. Electro-Voice loudspeakers and subwoofers handle reproduction, joined by 8 Sennheiser wireless microphones. The hanging line arrays were reduced from 5 per side to 3, and the subwoofers moved up into the speaker clusters to clear clutter from the stage.
QSYS Core control lets the crisp sound travel the long distance of the auditorium without losing quality, and 98 Perdue Acoustics panels tame the room itself. Around the audio, the renovation added 2 LA 180 Maxhub LED walls, 4 Lumens cameras, an AVProEdge switcher, and 40 Elation lighting fixtures, with streaming to YouTube, Facebook, and the museum's website.

Larger daily audiences for Science Live.

Attendance for Science Live reflects the success of the project. The room that once held the program back now draws larger daily audiences and stands as a hub for scientific exploration and entertainment.
