A long concrete room that fights its own sound
Restland Chapel is the main service room of a Dallas–Fort Worth funeral home, used for memorials and family gatherings. The space measures 100 feet long by 60 feet wide and is built largely from concrete, with five televisions positioned to keep every section of the room in view.
Hard parallel concrete surfaces and the rectangular footprint make an extremely challenging acoustic environment. Sound wants to bounce, build, and smear, so speech loses clarity at the back and music loses warmth at the edges — exactly the wrong outcome for a room where every word carries weight.
Cover the whole room without filling the ceiling with speakers
A 100x60 ft. concrete rectangle is a textbook acoustic problem. Most designs answer it with a grid of loudspeakers, which means more boxes, more cabling, more visual clutter overhead, and more variation from seat to seat.
Restland needed even, intelligible coverage across the entire chapel while keeping the installation discreet and the room dignified.
EVC-1122-VI, a problem-solver for acoustically challenging spaces
AxioTech Solutions covered the chapel with a single Electro-Voice EVC-1122-VI mounted at the center of the ceiling. The EVC-1122-VI uses a variable-intensity design — an asymmetrical waveguide and an angled 12-inch woofer — to spread level evenly across a rectangular floor, sending more energy to the far rows and easing it off the near ones.
A Dynacord C1300 power amplifier drives the system, with a robust power supply, a linear amplifier design, and protection circuitry built for steady, reliable operation. One box on the ceiling, one amplifier in the rack — the whole room covered.

The whole chapel covered front to back with no bounce-back
After installation, the single loudspeaker covered the full room evenly, front to back. The hard concrete walls, the usual source of slap and smear, stayed quiet. The coverage reached the edges without the reflections that a rectangular concrete room normally throws back.
The result was clear, homogeneous sound across every seat from one discreet source, and a template AxioTech intends to repeat in Restland's other chapels.
