The venue
A visitor complex on The Roof of Indochina
Fansipan Peak is an expansive religious and tourist attraction at the summit of Vietnam's tallest mountain. The complex features traditional Buddhist temples, the world's longest three-line cable car system, a funicular railway, and viewing platforms overlooking the surrounding mountain range and Hoàng Liên National Park. A year-round program of traditional dance performances and other festivities keeps the outdoor areas in constant use.
At 3143 meters above sea level, the site gives equipment no shelter. Temperatures drop to -8°C, humidity reaches 100%, and heavy rain, wind, fog, hail, and snow move through in every season. Any sound system installed here has to keep performing through all of it.

The challenge
Cover an open mountaintop, then survive its weather
The complex needed wide, even coverage across its outdoor areas for the music that accompanies the year-round performances and religious activities. The same system had to withstand extreme cold down to -8°C, humidity up to 100%, and heavy rain, wind, fog, hail, and snow.
Getting the equipment up there was a challenge of its own. With the installation taking place at the top of the highest peak in the region, every component traveled to the site via the Guinness world record-holding cable car that carries tourists to the complex.
The solution
Fiberglass loudspeakers, weatherized and IP55-rated
Truong Thinh Sound - Light Equipment JSC recommended the fiberglass versions of all the EV loudspeakers, weatherized and IP55-rated for direct-exposure outdoor environments. A total of 20 X1i-212 12-inch two-way line-array modules deploy on mobile trussing anywhere around the complex, with array size selected according to the application, and 8 X12i-128 subwoofers carry the low end. Just 6 Dynacord IPX20:4 power amplifiers (4 x 5000 W) drive the entire X1i system.
At the very top of the peak, where the national flag of Vietnam is planted, 6 EVF-1122D/96 12-inch two-way full-range loudspeakers with a 90° x 60° rotatable waveguide design supply near-field and medium-throw coverage. A pair of Dynacord L3600FD amplifiers (2 x 1800 W) powers them, supporting national ceremonies at the summit.
