A 12-year-old system due for renewal
A lower total cost of system ownership
IP connectivity and Dante audio
Green credentials for a Green Globe certified venue
The best possible sound with headroom to spare
Berlin Olympiastadion, Germany
A world first in Berlin: 10,000 watts per amp, half the energy
Berlin Olympiastadion has long been known as one of the best-sounding stadiums in Germany, outfitted with an Electro-Voice system in 2004 in time for the 2006 World Cup final. After 12 years of service, the venue became the world's first major installation of Dynacord IPX amplifiers: 64 IPX10:4 units delivering up to 10,000 watts each, with all 171 Electro-Voice XLC line arrays upgraded to DVX drivers. The result is more power, clearer sound, and energy savings of more than 50 percent.

One of the best-sounding stadiums in Germany
Berlin Olympiastadion has long been known as one of the best-sounding stadiums in Germany. The historic venue was outfitted in 2004 with an Electro-Voice system in time for the 2006 World Cup final, a landmark reference project for stadium sound.
After 12 years of faithful service, that system was due for renewal. The stadium set out to reduce the total cost of system ownership while keeping the sound that made the venue famous, and clear speech was a safety requirement, not a luxury.
Cut the cost of ownership without cutting the sound
The new system had to feature IP connectivity, Dante audio, and green credentials, and still deliver the best possible sound with headroom to spare. Intelligibility was the baseline: announcements that fans cannot clearly understand are a safety risk as much as a comfort issue.
The world's first major IPX installation
64 Dynacord IPX10:4 Class-D multi-channel amplifiers, each delivering up to 10,000 watts, now power the stadium and handle all DSP processing. 2 Electro-Voice N8000 NetMax controllers manage audio distribution and interface with the emergency evacuation system, while IRIS-Net 4.0 software gives staff constant supervision and control of every parameter through fully customized graphical user interfaces with adjustable user access privileges.
Rather than replacing a very effective system, the stadium's 171 Electro-Voice XLC line arrays were upgraded with DVX drivers. Previously run in bi-amp mode with a passive crossover for mid and high frequencies, the arrays are now driven fully active in tri-amp mode.

“Dynacord IPX series DSP amplifiers were the ideal choice for the Berlin Olympiastadion, not only because they sound fantastic, but for their flexibility and unique green credentials.”
Once again in a class of its own
Thanks to Dynacord's patent pending ecoRAIL technology, the IPX10:4 amplifiers cut energy consumption by more than 50 percent, a key contribution to the stadium's recent Green Globe sustainability certification. The amplifiers pack more power while using significantly less rack space.
The upgraded XLC arrays deliver more powerful sound and increased intelligibility, and full IP networking leaves the stadium ready for any challenge. In 2006, the Berlin Olympiastadion sound system was a landmark reference project. Now it is once again in a class of its own.
